Reel life Villain Sonu Sood is proving to be a real-life superstar. The 46-year-old actor who is known for his roles in movies such as Singh is Kinng, Simmba, and Dabangg is hailed in the media for arranging the hassle-free passage of migrant labourers to their homes amid the Coronavirus lockdown.
Bollywood actor Sonu Sood arranged a chartered flight to send over 150 women labourers to Odisha from Kerala after coming to know about their problems.
The flight took off from Kochi airport to Bhubaneswar on 29th May 2020 at 8 AM. Sood had launched a toll-free helpline number (18001213711) through which one can reach out to his team for help. The actor bore the expenses for the flight.
The staff were taken by surprise when they became conscious that they were about to travel home. The employees were transported with the aid of Kochi City Police Commissioner Vijay Sakhare from the factories they had been staying at to the airport one night before. The Odisha government has given migrant workers the necessary permission to return to their home state.
Pictures of Sood waving at the labourers all set to travel in buses have been winning hearts of everyone on the internet since early May. Hundreds of thousands of migrant workers were trapped in urban areas with little jobs and very little to survive during the COVID-19-induced lockdown, forcing them to walk on their native sites.
“Watching Migrant workers walking miles to get to their homes gave me sleepless nights”, said Sonu Sood. The actor has been arranging buses for migrant workers to go back to their homes every day since the COVID-19 lockdown.
Sood has worked actively to support stranded migrant workers. He also recently made headlines for giving up rooms for health professionals to stay at his Mumbai hotel.
He has helped approximately 12,000 migrants as part of his 'Ghar Bhejo' initiative, and plans have been made for a further 45,000. Food and water are also delivered to at least 45,000 people per day. He even carefully evaluates after the requests that come via social media.
For his noble work, the actor has even been praised by many including the Governor of Maharashtra, Shri Bhagat Singh Koshyari and Chief Minister of Punjab Captain Amarinder Singh.
Carrying out the work was not easy for him as permissions from state governments were to be taken and buses were to be arranged, but Sood did that, and people can see the results of his efforts.
