OTT Platform: A New Address To Your Movie Watching Habits

Since the commencement of the lockdown, you must have tried everything from Ludo to Tambola and eventually to binge-watching. Still, nothing has been working on getting rid of the lockdown blues as there's no new content available.

The shadow of the merciless Novel Coronavirus Pandemic has indeed dismantled the economy of the world. Every sector is shattered and finding ways to recover. The world of glamour, Bollywood is going through an unwanted recession which has forced the movie producers to find alternative methods for the release of their movie.

There is no certainty when things will be back to normal, and as a temporary solution, the OTT platform will be replacing the movie theatres.

OTT, which means “over-the-top” is the media service in which the users can stream their favourite shows, music, movies, and many more, directly from the internet to their smartphones, tablets, or laptops. Amidst the lockdown, OTT services like Netflix, Prime Video, Hotstar have seen a significant spike in their growth. People are staying home, and binge-watching is at the top of their list.

List Of Films To Be Released On OTT Platforms:

  • Upcoming comedy horror “Laxmi Bomb", starring superstar Akshay Kumar will be releasing in Hotstar Premium.

  • Additionally, “Gulabo Sitabo” starring Amitabh Bachchan & Ayushmann Khurrana will be released on Prime Video.

  • “Shakuntala Devi" Vidya Balan will also be releasing in Prime Video.

But, producers have put their movies on stand by and waiting for things to get back to normal. One such film is"83", the movie based on the biography of Kapil Dev starring Ranveer Singh is yet to declare its release.

Interestingly “Bigflix" owned by Reliance Entertainment is this oldest known OTT platform in India.

While the audience is accepting such move with open arms, the Bollywood celebs think that these platforms can never match the movie-watching experience of the theatres and can never replace movie theatres.

By far, this is true. Don't you miss planning a movie with your friends and family, getting ready, and talking about which part you loved the most after the movie ended.

Also, the acceptance of these platforms as a primary source for watching movies may close opportunities for socializing and the lovely vibe, quality time that people get usually get from the movie theatre.

The industry which is staring at huge losses due to the Coronavirus lockdown may further get dissolved if such platforms are put to use as the primary source of movies. Also, it will add in the unemployment numbers to rise as most of the movie theatre staffs would lose their jobs.

As per film trade and business analyst Girish Johar's estimate, the Hindi film industry has already lost Rs 1000-1500 crore since the nationwide lockdown was imposed.

As for a short period, people will have to adapt OTT for movie watching. Sooner or later, when things are healthy, one can witness Housefull shows and having quality time with their loved ones.
